PARENTS and carers across Stockton-on-Tees are being urged to get their applications in for their child’s secondary school place.
If your child was born between September 1, 2007, and August 31, 2008, they are due to start secondary school in September 2019.
The deadline to apply is October 31, 2018, and any late applications will only be considered after those made on time have been processed.
Councillor Ann McCoy, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “We understand that the transition from primary to secondary school can be a worrying time for parents and carers so we try to make the admission process as easy as possible.
“When choosing a secondary school, we recommend you consider attending the autumn opening evenings at the schools you’re interested in and do some research into their website, prospectus and performance.
“It’s also a good idea to think about how your child will travel to school and have a look at our school transport policy.
“We receive thousands of applications each year and with the tight admission window I would urge people to complete the form as soon as possible.”
The Council is responsible for the coordination of admissions to all secondary schools across the Borough to comply with the School Admission Code 2014.
Details on the applications for a place at voluntary aided schools, free schools, academies or schools outside the Borough will be forwarded to the relevant bodies.
A letter will be sent to those who submitted a paper application form on or around March 1, 2019, informing them of the school they have been offered for their child. Those who applied online and chose (ticked) the option to receive an email will be informed by email only on March 1, 2019.
The easiest way to submit an application is via the online form at www.stockton.gov.uk/schooladmissions
