Designs for the new crematorium in Stockton-on-Tees have been revealed.
Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council has unveiled the new images as plans to build the facility progress.
Stockton-on-Tees Crematorium will be a single-storey, state-of-the-art building with two service chapels.
The site will also feature tranquil gardens of remembrance that will be surrounded by high-quality landscaping. Extensive on-site parking will be available.
Councillor Mike Smith, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, said: “Over the last six years nearly 80 percent of bereaved families in the Borough opted for cremation rather than burial for their loved ones, so we know that there’s a demand for a crematorium in Stockton-on-Tees.
“We want to be able to meet the needs of our bereaved families here in the Borough, and that’s why we’re building this facility and operating it ourselves.
The crematorium will be built on the site of the former Blakeston School Playing Fields on Junction Road.
Work to create the entrance to the site is under way and the construction of the crematorium itself is expected to start in June.
