globe the ten commandments

The search is on for enthusiastic volunteers to help make sure the Globe’s fascinating past is not lost as its exciting new future approaches.

A number of volunteering posts are being advertised ranging from Events Assistants to Recording, Tours and Archives Assistants.

Successful applicants will be offered training and depending on their role will have the chance to support Globe related events and tours, take part in a photography and film project to record the iconic art-deco venue’s restoration, carry out research relating to the Globe’s past and create exhibitions showcasing the Globe of yesteryear.

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, Councillor Norma Wilburn, said: “There are some very exciting opportunities to get involved with the Globe.  It is a really important part of Stockton’s history and heritage and the volunteers will play a vital role in ensuring this is captured for future generations.

“If you’ve got an interest in the Globe and a desire to learn more about Stockton’s entertainment heritage while developing a whole host of new skills it would definitely be worth your while to apply.”

Basic training will cover areas like Health & Safety, Safeguarding, Equality & Diversity and Customer Service.  Meanwhile, workshops including research, photography, oral history interviewing, storytelling and presentation, digital content, and social media techniques will be offered and anyone interested in developing their understanding further can also enrol on a Level 2 heritage skills course.

For full details of the volunteering opportunities available email Sophie.owens@stockton.gov.uk or call 07384452710.  Places are limited.
