Stockton celebrates Refugee Week

Wednesday, June 20, 2018

A FUN-filled day of free family events is taking place in Stockton for the 20th anniversary of Refugee Week.

From 2pm on Saturday, African drummers, dance groups, musicians, singers and a DJ will perform at ARC.

There will also be a fashion show, an art exhibition and quiz to entertain audiences of all ages.

Councillor Steve Nelson, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Access, Communities and Community Safety, said: “We have a long and proud history of welcoming and supporting refugees so this is a great opportunity to celebrate the contribution they make to our Borough.

“Refugee Week aims to encourage greater understanding between communities, as well as raising awareness of the challenges refugees face when escaping conflict and oppression.”

Refugee Week began on Monday (June 18). For more information about the events and activities in the Borough contact Beauty Tshuma on 07701 373086 or email beauty.tshuma@cleveland.pnn.police.uk
