SIRF18 came to a dramatic close last night as a stunning pyrotechnic show left crowds feeling both moved and exhilarated.
Thousands of festival goers at Stockton Riverside were treated to the specially commissioned show, ‘Going out with a Bang!’ by pyrotechnic experts, Lightfires.
Internationally renowned band, Ibibio Sound Machine, got the finale started with a high energy clash of music inspired by West African funk, disco, modern post-punk and electro.
And once the pyrotechnics began the audience found themselves exploring the dangerous beauty of explosives – from the harsh reality of war to the colourful celebration of peace. With an original soundtrack of haunting vocals and sirens as well as powerful percussion the show built with dramatic pace and scale to a spectacular full-throttle finale.
Councillor Norma Wilburn, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, said: “Going out with a Bang! was the perfect show to end what has been four truly amazing days. With our biggest programme, 150 free large and small scale shows, we promised that SIRF18 would be the best yet. Thanks to everyone who has supported the festival by coming along and enjoying themselves. We hope you left with smiles on your faces.”
SIRF is supported by Arts Council England.
