Preparation for Stockton Sparkles has begun as the first of Stockton Town Centre’s much loved super-sized decorations have arrived on the High Street.

Visitors to Stockton Town Centre will find the return of the large, illuminated reindeer on top of the Shambles Market Hall and a giant Christmas bauble on Dovecot Street.

The giant decorations arrived yesterday (12 November) complementing the giant bow and ribbon above buildings overlooking the fountains, and will soon be joined by polar bears, a gift box and 50ft Christmas tree.

And they will all be switched on during the launch night of Stockton Sparkles, which starts at 5.30pm on Thursday 30 November.

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, Councillor Norma Wilburn, said: “The arrival of our giant illuminated decorations is the first sign Stockton Sparkles is just around the corner.  Make a date in your diary for the launch night to enjoy a special night of festive fun – and to see these extra special decorations come to life, transforming Stockton Town Centre into a magical winter wonderland awash with sparkling lights and festive atmosphere.

“Throughout the four week festival there will be so much for families and visitors to experience for free from a packed programme of lively street theatre each weekend to a Victorian Fair and the popular Reindeer Parade. Keep a look out for a new addition to this year’s programme – it’s called ‘The Gift’ and is a really touching community initiative we’re doing with the Thirteen Group to give residents and visitors a special opportunity to donate or wrap gifts for those less fortunate.

“Talking of gifts, Stockton Sparkles will bring a magical atmosphere to town setting the perfect backdrop for shoppers to find perfect gifts at Stockton’s array of independent shops and national chains.”
