THERE will be opportunities galore for contractors and suppliers at a ‘Meet the Buyer’ event being held in Stockton next week.
The event will give local firms the chance to bid for a range of work packages associated with the construction of the town’s first Hampton by Hilton hotel.
It is being hosted by Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, which will own the 128-bed hotel, and construction contractor, Bowmer & Kirkland.
And it takes place at 6pm on Wednesday, November 8 at Stockton Baptist Church, The Square.
The Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Housing, Councillor Nigel Cooke, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for local companies to benefit from this exciting project and we’re really looking forward to meeting them. It’s a clear sign of how this investment is creating and supporting local firms and local jobs.
“The hotel will bring a famous global brand to the town, boost the local economy by £6.7million per year, and will be welcomed with open arms by local businesses and the Chamber of Commerce, who have expressed overwhelming support for it.”
Darren Stoker, Contracts Manager at Bowmer & Kirkland, added: “We’re really proud to be working on this prestigious project in Stockton and are fully committed to working with local contractors so they can share in its success.
“This event is about helping local businesses to connect with the opportunities on offer. It’s also a chance to meet people face to face, answer any questions they may have and ultimately, to build even stronger local relationships.”
The site of the new hotel forms part of the mixed-use Northshore regeneration scheme, incorporating new offices, homes and leisure facilities within walking distance of the newly regenerated Stockton town centre.
The 56-acre, £300million Northshore scheme is a partnership between Muse Developments, the Homes and Communities Agency and Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.
Alan McBride, Project Director for Muse Developments, said: “Northshore is an extremely important scheme for Stockton-on-Tees, so it’s great to see local companies and people being given the opportunity to get involved. The new hotel will further cement Northshore as a vibrant new place to live, work and visit.”
Martin Wilks, Senior Specialist at the Homes and Communities Agency, added: “This is a very important step for Northshore and at the Homes and Communities Agency it will be great to keep growing our partnership with Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council to deliver the new Hampton by Hilton Hotel.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming as many potential contractors and suppliers on November 8, who will be as keen as we are to make the hotel another key ingredient in the success of a rejuvenated Stockton.”
