Residents reminded to register to vote

RESIDENTS of the Borough of Stockton-on-Tees are being reminded to make sure they are registered to vote in the General Election ahead of the 22 May deadline.

Anyone who is not already on the electoral register is being encouraged to register themselves by midnight on Monday 22 May.

Those who would like to vote by post must apply to do so by 5pm on Tuesday 23 May, while applications to vote by proxy will close at 5pm on Wednesday 31 May.

Anyone who registers to vote by post is being encouraged to return their ballot paper using the pre-paid envelope as soon as they have completed it.

Registration can be done online at or by phoning the Voter Registration Helpline on 01642 526196.

The process only takes a few minutes to complete and requires applicants to provide their date of birth and National Insurance number. The online service is compatible with all platforms, including tablets and smartphones.

Polling stations across the Borough of Stockton-on-Tees will open for voting between 7am and 10pm on Thursday 8 June.
