Stockton International Riverside Festival (SIRF) is celebrating its 30th birthday this summer and people of all ages and backgrounds have a chance to be part of it.
Around 100 volunteers are being recruited to participate in a selection of performances that will form this year’s special anniversary programme.
Among the opportunities available is supporting Cirque Bijou's ground breaking Fire Wire finale show.
Cirque Bijou will bring four leading international circus artists, Jade Kindar Martin, Chris Bullzini, Johanne Humblet and Karine Mauffrey, who will work together on two high wires in front of Trinity Church. Jade will perform his astonishing feat, a daredevil walk on the longest flaming high wire in the world. The unique performance will be accompanied by live music, dazzling special effects, professional dancers and up to 50 dancing volunteers.
The company is looking for volunteer dancers who will work with professional choreographers and world class circus performers in the large scale colourful dance show.
The dancers will use Cirque Bijou's own LED Umbrellas which will blaze with a rainbow of changing colours, to create stunning shapes and movement.
Volunteers interested in simple acting and dancing are also needed for a number of the fun and family friendly daytime shows.
Artistic Director for SIRF, Jan Doherty, said: “This is a very special year for SIRF and we want as many people as possible to be part of it.
“The festival always attracts first class companies from all around the world and this year there is a fantastic opportunity for local people to not only watch them perform but to perform alongside them too.”
Enthusiastic, committed and energetic performers, aged over 18 with professional or non-professional dancing experience are required for the finale performance. Opportunities for all ages and abilities are available for several of the other shows.
SIRF will take place 3-6 August. Anyone who volunteers will need to be available for rehearsals shortly before SIRF.
