stocktons reading challenge is set for web

A 9 year old girl from Stockton is urging others to follow in her footsteps when it comes to reading.

Daisy Johnson was crowned the winner of the 2016/17 Stockton Reading Challenge by Mayor of Stockton-on-Tees, Councillor Ken Dixon, after borrowing and reading 18 books in 12 months.

Daisy said: “I really enjoy reading and visiting the library.  There are lots of books to borrow and the Reading Challenge is a really fun thing to do.”

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, Councillor Norma Wilburn, said: “It was a pleasure to meet Daisy and hear about the enjoyment she gets from reading – she is certainly a very worthy winner.

“The Stockton Reading Challenge is a great scheme that encourages young people to read and build their confidence, while helping adults to rediscover the joy of reading.

“All you have to do to take part is borrow and read 12 books from the Borough’s libraries between now and December 2017.

“Our libraries hold a huge variety of books and there is always someone on hand to point you in the direction of a good read.”
