Tees Valley book festival returns

STOCKTON-ON-TEES libraries are joining forces with their counterparts across the region to host the ‘Crossing the Tees’ Book Festival.

It is the fourth time that the annual, two week-long festival, has been held and highlights include:

National Bookstart Week, 10am – 12noon, Friday 9 June, Preston Park Museum & Grounds

Stockton Borough Libraries in partnership with Preston Park Museum & Grounds present ‘Under the Sea Adventures’ to celebrate National Bookstart Week. There will be rhyme times, crafts, Funky Feet, a free goodie bag and a ‘Hole in the Bottom of the Sea’ booklet for every child. Normal admission prices apply.

Lipstick Library, 6.30pm-8.30pm, Friday 9 June, Stockton Central Library

A girls only event with author Caighlan Smith who will talk about her fantasy book ‘Children of Icarus’.  There will be henna, hair braiding and crafts too.  Tickets cost £2.

Julian Norton – The Yorkshire Vet Author, 6.30pm – 8.30pm, Wednesday 14 June, Stockton Central Library

Author of Horses, Heifers and Hairy Pigs: The Life of a Yorkshire Vet and star of Channel 5’s The Yorkshire Vet, Julian Norton will recount tales of life in a busy vets practice and unexpected stardom.  Tickets cost £5.

Stockton Book Fair, 10am-4pm, Saturday 17 June, Stockton High Street and Stockton Central Library

A fun-filled day of free activities for all the family including workshops with best-selling children’s author, Cathy Cassidy, author illustrator, Suz Hughes and Stockton Children’s Book of the Year 2017 winner, Tamsin Cooke.  There will also be a range of traders selling books and literacy themed gifts.

Choc Lit Day, 1.30pm-4pm, Saturday 17 June, Stockton Central Library

Meet local authors and hear about their writing journeys and take part in quizzes and games as part of women’s fiction publisher, Choc Lit’s, national tour.  There will also be an opportunity for budding authors to pitch their manuscript to a Choc Lit editor. Tickets cost £5.

An evening with Kate Fox, 7pm-8.30pm, Monday 19 June, Stockton Central Library

Stand-up poet Kate Fox who recently had her second comedy series broadcast on BBC Radio 4 will be performing.  Tickets cost £5.

Exploring poetry workshop and poetry reading with Anna Woodford and Ruby Robinson, 5.30pm-7pm, Wednesday 21 June, Norton Library

Read and discuss contemporary poetry.  Suitable for anyone who would like to find out about how to read contemporary poetry and which poets to look out for.  Tickets cost £2.
