Elite cycling team ready to send Stockton into a spin

Monday, June 12, 2017

ONE OF the country’s premier cycling teams paid a special visit to Stockton Town Centre ahead of next month’s Stockton Cycling Festival.

Brother NRG Pro Cycling sent two members of their team to the High Street ahead of the festival which runs from Friday 14 to Sunday 16 July.

The team is set to compete in the festival’s thrilling finale - the Stockton Grand Prix on Sunday 16 July.

The team boast a number of 2017 British Cycling National Track Champions in their ranks with the Kilometre Time Trial, Individual and Team Pursuit titles all in their locker.

And riders William Brown and Jack Rees got kitted out and onto their bikes as they ramped up their preparations for the festival.

Jack said: “Racing in Stockton is great because of the unique course that rolls out into some fantastic countryside scenery before a thrilling finish in the town centre. To have our families and friends here cheering us on makes it extra special.”

William added: “The local crowds are brilliant with the support that they give us and the Grand Prix circuit is excellent. To finish down on the Riverside in front of such big crowds is a great feeling.”

They were joined on the High Street by Councillor Norma Wilburn, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture.

“It was absolutely fantastic to welcome the team to Stockton Town Centre and to just get a glimpse of their cycling technique and talent,” she said.

“Having spoken to them, I know how much the team are looking forward to competing at the Stockton Cycling Festival and I would encourage everyone of all ages to come down and support all the riders not only at the Grand Prix on Sunday 16 July but throughout the whole weekend.

“The Cycling Festival is a massively popular event in the Borough’s sporting calendar and there really is a tremendous amount of fun to be had either as a participant in one of our activities or simply as a spectator. I’d urge everyone to experience it in whatever way you can.”

The Stockton Cycling Festival takes place between Friday 14 July and Sunday 16 July with a wide range of events on offer including town centre racing, the Stockton Sportive, RideStockton, the Stockton Extreme Bike Battle and a Family Festival Day.
