The Square car park in Stockton Town Centre will close on Tuesday 18 July as part of preparations for work starting on the new Hampton by Hilton Hotel.
Situated on Church Road, the hotel will be constructed on the former dairy, Kwik Fit and The Square car park sites.
Hampton by Hilton Stockton-on-Tees will be Hilton’s first hotel in the town, and will be owned and developed by Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.
Before construction begins later this summer the neighbouring Kwik Fit building will be demolished.
Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Housing, Councillor Nigel Cooke, said: “Our town centre has transformed significantly in recent years and now offers award winning public space, world class events, quality independent shops as well as a vibrant café and bar culture, and there is still much more to come including the exciting restoration of the Globe. With all of this going on and more, the hotel is certain to be a valuable addition.
“The closure of The Square car park is one of the preparations that must take place before construction starts later this summer.
“There are more than 34 alternative car parks across Stockton Town Centre so the closure of The Square, one of the town’s smallest car parks, won’t affect the availability of spaces in the town. For full details of the town’s car parks visit www.stockton.gov.uk/parking”
The site of the new hotel forms part of the mixed-use Northshore regeneration scheme, incorporating new offices, homes and leisure facilities within walking distance of the newly regenerated Stockton Town Centre. The 56-acre, £300million scheme is a partnership between Muse Developments, the Homes and Communities Agency and Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.
