Essential road and car park closures will be in place on Stockton High Street from this weekend to allow for road improvement works to get under way.
A temporary closure of the High Street between the bus turning loop at the northern end of the High Street and Yarm Lane/Bridge Road junction will be in place from 6am to 4pm on Sunday, 15 January.
A closure between the bus turning loop and Yarm Lane/Bridge Road junction will then be in place from 6am on Sunday, 22 January until 5.30am on Monday, 23 January. Temporary traffic signals will be situated at the Yarm Lane/Bridge Road junction.
The Shambles car park will be closed for the duration of the works on both weekends, while the taxi rank at the south end of the High Street will be temporarily relocated to Prince Regent Street near to Dovecot Street.
Bus diversions are in place throughout the duration of works.
The closures are required to allow resurfacing to be completed as part of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s ongoing programme of road improvement works.
Councillor Nigel Cooke, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport, said: “The High Street is a busy and well-used road and these temporary closures are needed so that resurfacing and repair works can be made.
“We appreciate the closures may be frustrating so we have scheduled the works to take place at off-peak times to minimise disruption, and would urge motorists and public transport users to plan their journeys in advance.”
