Parents and carers across Stockton Borough are reminded that the primary school admissions deadline is fast approaching.
If your child was born between 1 September 2012 and 31 August 2013, they will be due to start primary school in September 2017.
Applications close on Sunday 15 January and any late submissions will not be considered until places have been allocated to those who applied before the deadline.
Parents and carers can make up to three school preferences in the application and there is no automatic transfer from nursery to primary school, meaning you must apply even if your child attends a school nursery.
Councillor Ann McCoy, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “I urge parents and carers to get their application done well before the deadline – please don’t run the risk.
“The best way to reduce the chance of missing out on a preferred school is by submitting an application before Sunday 15 January.
“Your child will be in primary school for a number of years so it is vital you get this process right.”
The easiest way to apply is online at www.stockton.gov.uk/schooladmissions
Your home address determines which schools are your ‘zone schools’ but every parent and carer can express a preference for a place in any school, regardless of whether or not it is their admission zone school.
To find out which are your admission zone schools, visit www.stockton.gov.uk/schooladmissions to use the Council’s Maps@Stockton facility.
Those who applied online will be emailed the outcome of their application on 18 April 2017. Letters will also be sent out to notify parents and carers.
Any parent and carer unhappy with their child’s allocated school place has the right to appeal and forms need to be submitted by 31 May 2017. Hearings will be held in June and July 2017.
