young people crowned road safety champions

More than 1500 children from across Stockton-on-Tees have been showcasing their road safety knowledge in a bid to become champions.

The year six pupils from 36 schools across the Borough have been competing in heats throughout November.

The final took place on Friday (15 December) at the Baptist Church in Stockton where the top three schools, Egglescliffe CE Primary School, St Paul’s RC Primary School, Billingham and St Patrick’s RC Primary School, Thornaby went head to head.

St Paul’s were crowned the winners and received the annual Road Safety Quiz trophy as well as a swimming or ice-skating voucher courtesy of Tees Active for all year 6 pupils, a goody bag and certificate.

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, Councillor Mike Smith, said: “Congratulations to St Paul’s RC Primary School but a big well done must also go to all the children took part.

“Although the quiz is lots of fun, it is also a great way for our young people to learn potentially life-saving road safety advice.”
