Stockton will light up to raise awareness

Tuesday, December 12, 2017

Stockton's Town Centre and Riverside will be illuminated with purple lighting to show Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s support of a campaign to raise worldwide awareness of Childhood Sexual Abuse and Child Sexual Exploitation.

On Friday, 15 December people around the globe will be encouraged to wear and share purple on social media using #PurpleChristmas to support this free and simple campaign.

As part of #PurpleChristmas, the Council will be lighting up River Tees, Town Hall, and High Street Fountains in purple to show support.

Staff are also being encouraged to wear something purple for work. Councillor Ann McCoy, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “Show your support for this important campaign which aims to raise awareness of childhood sexual abuse, child sexual exploitation and help keep children across the world safe.”
