Residents and shoppers can get into the season of goodwill at Stockton Sparkles thanks to a new event to help those most in need.
‘The Gift’ is a special new addition to Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s winter festival this year. It gives people the opportunity to make a difference to the lives of others by giving gifts and time to support people in the Borough who are vulnerable or alone.
Visitors to Stockton Town Centre are invited to the High Street Marquee from 10am – 3.30pm on Saturday, 16 December where they can donate goods, wrap gifts, make decorations and write Christmas cards. All of the items will be given to local people in need.
The following items will be accepted:
- Toiletries (sets) and sanitary products
- Shampoo and conditioner
- Lip balm
- Hand cream
- Hats, scarves and gloves
- Hair bobbles
- Alarm clocks
Councillor Norma Wilburn, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Culture and Leisure, said: “The Gift is a really touching community initiative which encourages people to think of those less fortunate. We’d like to ask everyone to show their support by donating these basic items and spare some time at our High Street Marquee on 16 December.
“There will be plenty to help with such as gift wrapping, Christmas card writing and making hampers of donated goods - all of which will make a huge difference to people who are faced with challenging circumstances. If you can’t make it along on 16 December, you can also drop off donations at the Rediscover Stockton shop on the High Street from 9.30am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday.”
There will also be a range of festive entertainment and Christmas carols to enjoy at the marquee and Matty’s Bistro will be serving soup and mince pies.
Groups of five or more who would like to show their support on 16 December should contact 01642 527312 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to book a time slot.
