Landlords of more than 1,000 private properties in Stockton-on-Tees have pledged to help improve rental standards by signing up to Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Landlord Accreditation Scheme.
The scheme, which is free to join, encourages landlords to sign up to a code of standards and work with the Council to improve property standards and management conditions in the private rented sector.
Members of the scheme can access a range of exclusive discounted property services such as a handyman service, training and development opportunities, and the Council’s Bond Guarantee Scheme. They are also eligible to receive a discount on Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO) license fees.
Accredited landlords can also take advantage of free member services including property advertisements, fast tracked housing benefit claims, and specialist advice and support.
Councillor Nigel Cooke, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Housing, said: “We are committed to working with landlords and tenants to ensure they meet their responsibilities to each other and that’s why the Council offers the Landlord Accreditation Scheme. The scheme supports landlords to provide well maintained, private rental properties, and helps tenants to live in safe and comfortable homes. It is free and easy to join the Landlord Accreditation Scheme so if you have one or more privately rented properties I would encourage you to register today.”
Housing provider Kexgill Stockton Ltd is the latest landlord to register. Branch Manager, Mark Sadler, said: “Deciding to join the scheme was easy. We have always had a great working relationship with Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, so this made a lot of sense. Working with the Council benefits both parties - if we can help the local community and find safe homes for families we will do so together.”
