CANVASSERS are visiting homes across Stockton Borough to help ensure residents do not lose their right to vote.
All local authorities have a Voter (Electoral) Register to ensure everyone entitled to vote has the opportunity to do so. If a person is not registered, they cannot vote.
The canvassers are visiting the homes of people who have not responded to requests for voter information.
They will all carry identification and they will not need to enter people’s homes.
The visits got under way today, which is International Day of Democracy, and will continue until mid-October.
International Day of Democracy sees activities and events being held across the world to raise public awareness of democracy.
For more information about registering to vote, residents can visit www.gov.uk/registertovote or contact the Council’s Voter Registration helpline on 01642 526196.
