PARENTS and carers with children due to start school in September 2017 can submit applications for primary school places from Monday 7 November.
If your child was born between 1 September 2012 and 31 August 2013, they will be due to start primary school in September 2017.
Parents and carers can make up to three school preferences in the application and there is no automatic transfer from nursery to primary school, meaning you must apply even if your child attends a school nursery.
Councillor Ann McCoy, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “I would encourage parents and carers to get their application done as soon as possible, there is no point in leaving it to chance.
“If you submit a late application, your child may miss out on a place at your preferred school and I would be disappointed if this happened to anyone.
“Your child will be in primary school for a number of years so it is crucial you get the admissions process right.”
To secure a place, an application must be registered with the Council’s School Admissions Team. The easiest way to apply is online at www.stockton.gov.uk/schooladmissions
The closing date for applications is 15 January 2017 - any submissions after this date will be classed as late and will only be considered after places have been allocated to applications made on time.
Those who apply online will receive an email on 18 April 2017 informing them of the school their child has been allocated. Letters will also be posted out to notify parents and carers.
Your home address determines which schools are your ‘zone schools’ but every parent or carer has the right to express a preference for a place in any school, regardless of whether or not it is their admission zone school.
Any parent or carer unhappy with their child’s allocated school place has the right to appeal and forms need to be submitted by 31 May 2017. Hearings will be held in June and July.
