Stockton shoppers called to love their local market

Wednesday, May 25, 2016

STOCKTON will celebrate its market culture and heritage with a special Love Your Local Market event this Saturday (28 May).

Over 1,000 towns across the country are taking part to highlight the value and history of local markets.

Stockton’s iconic traditional market, which is now over 700 years old, will be taken over by the popular Love Your Local Market event which aims to complement the feel-good factor in the town centre following its successful regeneration.

On offer this year will be free face painting for children, costumed princesses meeting and greeting visitors and even a flying visit from Spider Man.

A special free-to-play ‘hook-a-duck’ stall will be located on the High Street with market vouchers to be won which can be redeemed at the array of stalls on-site. All participants will have one chance to hook-a-duck and all ducks caught win a prize!

Councillor Bob Cook, Leader of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, said: “Love Your Local Market is always a popular event here in Stockton. I’m sure that this year’s focus on family fun will bring plenty of people into the Town Centre to peruse what is on offer, shop at the stalls and visit the independent shops housed in the Enterprise Arcade to really make a day of it.”

The event runs this Saturday (28 May) between 10am and 3.30pm.

All aspects of this event are free of charge and visitors are reminded that there is free parking for one hour available at any short stay, off-street Council car parks within Stockton Town Centre.
