A cracking Eggshibition

eggshibition

Over the last few weeks, local school children and community groups have been creating unique egg-shaped sculptures as part of a new exhibition at Preston Park Museum & Grounds.

Eggshibition will showcase hundreds of decorated eggs; from ‘first egg on the moon’ to Alice in Wonderland, Star Wars to sequins and very beautiful traditional hand-painted patterned eggs.

Useful Vision, a North East charity which provides positive opportunities for vision impaired children and their families, are one of the groups involved.

Emma Hogg from Useful Vision said: “The children have had great fun with this fantastic community art project. They used a range of tactile materials to decorate their eggs, including feathers, bubble wrap and Velcro, making it a real sensory experience. It gives the group a fantastic opportunity to have their work of art on display for all to see in the museum.”

Councillor Norma Wilburn, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, said:“We have been very impressed by the quality of eggs we have received and are delighted that so many schools and community groups have taken part. We look forward to welcoming you all to the museum over Easter to celebrate everyone’s hard work in what is a unique piece of community art.”

Eggshibition is now open to members of the public until 10 April (closed 17 and 22 March) at Preston Park Museum & Grounds. Entry is free with museum admission (Family £5, Adult £2.50, Concession/Child £1.50. All tickets are valid for a year).
