SCI-FI fans are in for a treat as the Kapow Specialist Market and Family Fun Day returns to Stockton Town Centre this Saturday (11 June).
Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council has joined forces with local business Who-Ray! to bring the free event back to the High Street after it proved so popular last summer.
Between 10am and 4pm, specialist traders will sell a range of sci-fi, TV and film related toys, action figures and collectables in the marquee at the northern end of the High Street.
There will also be demonstrations and workshops throughout the day for all the family to enjoy including ‘Walk with Richard the Dinosaur’ and a ‘Star Wars workshop’ at 11am, 1pm and 2.30pm.
With personal appearances from the sixth Doctor, Colin Baker, Simon Fisher-Becker who has starred in both Doctor Who and Harry Potter, Ian McNeice and Katy Manning from Dr Who and Nick Joseph of Star Wars - fans will be able to meet and greet their idols at ARC on Dovecot Street. These popular characters will all host ‘audience with’ sessions and will be available across the day for photo opportunities.
After 1pm Colin Baker will also be hosting a special charity auction on behalf of Butterwick Hospice.
Later the same afternoon Who-Ray! are inviting fans to have afternoon tea with the famous faces at ARC. Tickets are available for the special experience which includes tea with a chosen guest, plus one autographed item. Councillor Nigel Cooke, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport, said: “Whether you are a sci-fi fan or are just looking for something fun to do with the whole family this weekend, Ka-Pow is definitely worth a visit. With stalls packed with goodies inspired by all things sci-fi, fun activities and a host of famous faces there will be something for everyone.”
Martin Shipley, owner of Who-Ray on Silver Street and one of the organisers of Kapow, added: “Kapow is our second big High Street event and we hope it will attract families who haven’t visited Stockton for a while to mingle around the town, browse the stalls, enjoy the activities and meet former Doctor Who stars!
“Those with a love of electronic music cannot afford to miss the Radiophonic Workshop which is tipped to be a superb evening of live music. Come along to hear what should be a legendary performance.”
