Residents in Stockton Borough who are not already registered to vote still have time to sign up so they can take part in the EU referendum.

The referendum on the UK’s membership of the European Union will take place on Thursday 23 June 2016.

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is encouraging people who are not already registered to vote to do so by the 7 June deadline.

Residents can register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote or call the Voter Registration Helpline on 01642 526196.

Registration takes just a few minutes and requires people to provide their date of birth and National Insurance number.

Voters who are already registered to vote are being reminded that they do not need to register again for the EU Referendum on 23 June.

Electoral Registration Officer for Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, David Bond, said: “It’s vitally important that people register and take the opportunity to have their say.

“You won’t be able vote if you haven’t registered to vote by the 7 June deadline, so I would encourage everyone to register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote or call the Voter Registration Helpline on 01642 526196.”

To register to vote, visit www.gov.uk/register-to-vote, call the Voter Registration Helpline on 01642 526196, or email [email protected] to request a hard copy registration form.

Any voters who require any additional information are advised to go to www.stockton.gov.uk/eureferendum,  or www.aboutmyvote.co.uk

Alternatively telephone the Electoral Commission helpline on 0800 3 280 280.
