Stockton-on-Tees joined communities across the nation last night (Thursday, 21 April) to commemorate Her Majesty The Queen’s official 90th birthday with a traditional beacon lighting event.

Residents, community groups and visitors joined the Mayor of Stockton-on-Tees, Councillor Ken Dixon, on Stockton High Street to take part in the celebration which began with a short ceremony before the beacon was set alight at 8.30pm.

A beacon was also lit in John Whitehead Park by Billingham Town Council.

Mayor of Stockton-on-Tees Councillor Ken Dixon, said: “It was so good to join residents of the Borough last night to commemorate Her Majesty’s 90th birthday and recognise the extraordinary service she has given the country for more than six decades.  We are looking forward to further celebrating her contribution in her ninetieth year with our ‘A Right Royal Celebration’, a fun-filled street party taking place on Stockton High Street on 12 June.”
