Changes to parking for disabled blue badge holders in Billingham

Thursday, October 08, 2015

From Monday 12 October changes to parking for disabled badge holders on Kingsway and The Causeway in Billingham will come into force.

Disabled badge holders will no longer be able to park on the double yellow lines on Kingsway due to the introduction of loading restrictions. However blue badge holders will still be able to park for free in the existing marked bays on Kingsway and in the off-street car parks which have dedicated disabled bays.

To compensate for the loss of disabled parking on Kingsway Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council has provided two new dedicated disabled parking laybys on the north side of The Causeway. These laybys can accommodate up to ten cars and provide easy access to Billingham Town Centre and John Whitehead Park.

The taxi rank will return to its existing location on the south (town centre) side of The Causeway, parallel to the developing Aldi site.

Councillor David Rose, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport, said: “We know blue badge holders need to be able to park near as possible to the Town Centre and its local amenities which is why we have created these two new dedicated disabled parking laybys on The Causeway close to the pedestrian crossings.

“Although the introduction of loading restrictions on Kingsway means people will no longer be able to park on the double yellow lines there is still plenty of free parking in Billingham, both in existing marked bays on Kingsway and in nearby car parks.”

Residents or visitors needing more information about the new parking arrangements can contact Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council on 01642 526709 or email [email protected]
