Your vote matters – don’t lose it!

That’s the message for Stockton Borough residents as Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council comes to the end of their annual household canvass to update the voter (electoral) registers.

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is reporting a good response to their canvass with almost ninety percent of voters updating their information. Now they are urging the final ten percent to send in the outstanding information by the 20 November deadline.

In June 2014 a new individual voter registration system was introduced to make it more accurate and secure. Since then voters are required to provide their date of birth and national insurance number to complete their voter registration. The new system also introduced internet voter registration at www.gov.uk/registertovote

Leader of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, Councillor Bob Cook, said: “You don’t have to vote by law, but you do have to register to vote. If you’re not registered, you will not be able to vote in the Police and Crime Commissioner elections next May, or in the EU referendum.

“We would like to thank everyone who has responded so far, and urge those who have not, to send in the requested information by 20 November so they don’t lose their right to vote.”
