Ka-Pow! Sci-Fi market arrives in Stockton

Tuesday, June 2, 2015

Star Wars and Doctor Who fans are in for a treat as the Ka-Pow (sci-fi) Market and Family Fun Day lands in Stockton High Street this Saturday (June 6)!

Between 10am and 4pm, specialist traders will sell a range of sci-fi, TV and film related toys, action figures and collectables.

There will also be a chance to meet well-known characters in Wellington Square where John Levene UNIT’s Sergeant Benton, Terry Molloy Davros and Sylvester McCoy the 7th Doctor, and Wizard Radagast the Brown from The Hobbit will take part in “audience with” sessions.

Later the same day Dr Who fans are invited to Silver Street coffee shop for afternoon tea with the show’s famous faces.

Leader of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, Councillor Bob Cook, said: “Ka-Pow will bring something very different to the heart of the High Street and is the latest addition to Stockton’s growing specialist markets programme.

“The specialist markets really do attract more visitors and shoppers into the town and build on what the popular weekly market has to offer.”

“Whether you are a sci-fi fan or are just looking for something fun to do with the whole family this weekend, Ka-Pow is well worth a visit.”

Martin Shipley, owner of Who-Ray on Silver Street and one of the organisers of Ka-Pow, added: “For all things sci-fi the place to be is Stockton on Saturday - check out the galaxy of specialist traders, meet some of the Dr Who characters or even make your own superhero.”

TV scriptwriter Dean Wilkinson and artist Michael Pounder are hosting drop-in style art workshops between 11am and 3pm. Anyone who attends will have a chance to make their own superheroes and monsters.

At 11am and 2pm there will be a “how to become a trooper” workshop and there is even a Cosplay Competition at 2.45pm.

All activities are free apart from the afternoon tea which costs £20 per adult and £10 for children. The price includes afternoon tea, five items autographed and a signed original print by artist Michael Pounder. Tickets are limited and can be purchased from Who-Ray! 7, Silver Street, online at www.who-ray.co.uk or calling 01642 913923.
