Regeneration plans to transform Stockton’s Swainby Road area are gathering pace as construction begins on site.
Stockton Council has signed a development agreement with Keepmoat Homes who will build 174 new two and three-bedroom quality homes. Whilst the majority of new homes will be for sale, 30 dwellings will be for provided for affordable rent and will be owned and managed by Tristar Homes, which is part of the Thirteen Group.
The new development will be called Norton Park and in recent weeks Keepmoat Homes and Stockton Council have been working with youngsters at North Shore Academy to come up with names for the streets within the estate inspired by nature found in nearby Lustrum Beck.
It is expected that the scheme, which has been supported by the Homes and Communities Agency, will take five years to complete with residents moving into new homes from this summer.
Councillor Mike Smith, Stockton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport, said: “Progressing the development of the Swainby Road area is part of our continued commitment to regenerate our town centres. Once complete this development will provide much-need homes and help bring prosperity and life to the Borough.”
Councillor Steve Nelson, Stockton Council's Cabinet Member for Housing and Community Safety, said: “It’s our ambition to provide residents with a wide choice of good quality housing for sale and rent in and around Stockton Town Centre. It is great to see work start on site here and before long residents will be able to enjoy living at Norton Park and making it their home.”
Keepmoat Homes are specialists in bringing brownfield sites back into use and are current partners of Stockton Council on both the successful Mandale Park and Meadow Rise new build developments.
