Stockton's own Diwali inspired event is making a return to the Borough on 29 October.
The Festival of Light and Colour is a free event organised by Stockton Council in association with the Hindu Cultural Society, Middlesbrough.
From 6pm to 7.30pm families and community groups will head to The Rear Quadrangle on Durham University Queen’s Campus to take part in the special event designed to celebrate the Diwali festival.
At 6pm the story of Diwali will be brought alive through sound, light and colour with Dhol* drumming and fire displays by Stockton Circus Group.
This will be followed by performances from the Hindu Cultural Society reflecting the imagery of Diwali and Indian Culture. From 6.35pm the celebration will come to a spectacular climax with a Bhangra dance finale and fireworks accompanied by a Bhangra DJ.
Visitors to the festival will then get the opportunity to buy delicious South Asian food and enjoy the music beneath the evening sky.
Stockton Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, Councillor Ken Dixon, said: “The Festival of Light and Colour is an exciting and a lively festival influenced by Hindu traditions and Indian culture. We are proud to work with the Hindu Cultural Society and Durham University’s Queen’s Campus to bring the story of Diwali to Stockton’s Riverside through music, lights and fireworks.”
The Festival of Light and Colour is a free event and will take place in The Rear Quadrangle, Holliday Building, Durham University Queen’s Campus, Stockton, TS17 6BH. For more information visit www.stockton.gov.uk/events
