The Tees Valley’s fastest growing new event will return to Stockton Town Centre for its second year on Sunday 27 April.

Duathlon participants will have the opportunity to enjoy the great atmosphere of a safe, closed road circuit as they compete in the energetic town centre race next month.

Anyone interested in taking part will be able to advantage of discounted entry rates until the end of March. Entry fees will then increase by £5 on 30 March and £10 on 13 April.

There are three distances to choose from and you don’t need to be an experienced athlete to join in the fun. All races follow a simple run-ride-run format so whether you want to achieve a personal goal or take on a new challenge, there is a race to suit all abilities.

The Novice race is ideal for anyone who is just starting out. Beginners will set off with a 2k run followed by a 10k cycle and a 1k run.

Get your adrenaline flowing in the standard distance race which involves a 10k run, 40k cycle and 5k run or have a go at the Sprint route, a course made up of a 5k run, 20k cycle and ending with a 2.5k run.

All races will start from Stockton’s Riverside. There will be cash prizes for first, second, and third places in the standard distance race and goody bags for all entrants.

Councillor Ken Dixon, Stockton Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, said: “Here in Stockton we are committed to hosting a diverse programme of events for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy.

“There really is a race for everyone in the Duathlon, so if you are interested in being a part of this exciting event then don’t hesitate to book your place today.”

This year, the Sprint distance will also act as an age-group qualifying race for the 2015 ETU European Duathlon Championships and the Standard distance will act as an age-group qualifier for the 2014 ITU World Duathlon Championships.

The event is being held by Stockton Council in association with TriHard and British Triathlon. The deadline for entries is 19 April. Places are limited, so book now to avoid disappointment.
