Stockton is now home to a new quality Indian restaurant and with another exciting independent eaterie on its way the Town Centre’s evening economy is certainly coming alive.

Newly opened on Castlegate Quay, restaurant Vadah, offers a fine dining promise from India. The owners, Mizan Abdin, Ahmed Siddique and Mizanur Khalique have fully refurbished the restaurant creating a comfortable yet sumptuous dining experience enabling diners to make the most of the picturesque views of the River Tees during the day and the illuminated Riverside at night. Multi award winning chef, Kaysar Ahmed, serves up a wide range of quality Indian cuisine from tempting specialities to the much loved classics.

Mizan Abdin said: “The three of us have a wealth of experience running restaurants in the region. We have been looking for a special venue to open a new restaurant together and when we saw the Castlegate Quay location we thought it was just what we wanted – the perfect ‘destination venue’ with amazing views of the river.

“With Vadah we want to offer the customers something different. We are taking Indian dining to another level and pride ourselves on excellence presentation and customer service. We want to give people a top quality yet value for money dining experience and so far all those who have been through our doors have been impressed.”

As the transformation of Stockton High Street is now in its final year Stockton Council is keen to attract and support businesses to open new restaurants and bars to expand the Town’s night time economy.

Due to open in Stockton Town Centre on 8 July is a new branch of popular Billingham restaurant, Mohujos. The Mexican restaurant which has been successfully operating since 2007 has seen year on year growth. Wendy Sayers, proprietor of the business, has now signed the lease on former Pappa Razzo restaurant overlooking the River Tees in Stockton Town Centre.

Mohujos by the River will serve food from Tuesday to Saturday and will offer a range of exciting Mexican and tapas with an element of street food.

The restaurant has also secured a deal to be the first in the North East to launch a new beer - Estrella Galacia - and will be offering quality brands such as Illy Coffee as well as a lunch takeaway menu – perfect for visitors or those working in the Town Centre.

With plans to host special events such as wine, cocktail and tequila tasting in the future Wendy and her team are hoping to provide an exciting venue which will also host live music.

Wendy Sayers, says: “We have been working towards opening a second restaurant for more than two years and feel that Stockton Town Centre is the right location given the huge investment and development in the area. Pappa Razzo has been empty for four years and we are so excited to be bringing it back to life. We feel we will fit in perfectly alongside the other successful restaurants and bars in the town.

“Mohujos is independent and we are proud of it! We will bring a little bit of Mexico to Stockton using locally sourced, fresh and authentic ingredients. Customer experience is top of our list and we want people to feel at home and offer great value and quality food and drinks. We are not just passionate about food we are passionate about people, it's all about the overall experience.”

These latest additions to Stockton Town Centre’s culinary offer complement current favourites such as Borge, Carpaccio and Kaminaki Greek Taverna among others which are renowned for their popular menus and customer service.

Councillor Mike Smith, Stockton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport, said: “I’m delighted that new restaurants are coming to Stockton – this is a real vote of confidence in the Town Centre’s regeneration. We want to expand and improve Stockton’s night time economy to encourage residents and visitors to come into the Town Centre to experience all we have to offer.

“With a growing number of quality independent restaurants offering top quality cuisine from across the globe Stockton has something different new and improved to offer and there is certainly something to suit every palate.”
