The history of Stockton can be seen at the click of a button with the launch of the brand new Heritage Stockton.
Stockton Council’s new website brings together articles and stories celebrating the Borough’s rich and diverse heritage online.
The website captures the early developments of the Borough from pre-Roman times, through to Anglo-Saxon settlements and into modern day with stories, pictures and information from the past and present.
Visitors to Heritage Stockton can discover the history behind the buildings and landmarks, sporting achievements and notable contributions to the arts and sciences, all which have helped to form the heritage of Stockton-on-Tees.
Take a trip along one of the virtual trails and go back in time to learn about the Borough’s contributions to both World Wars, read the stories of local men in the Great War and see where the bombs fell on the historical maps and timelines.
Councillor Ken Dixon, Stockton Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, said: “Heritage Stockton embraces the latest technology making it easy to access information about the Borough right at your fingertips. It is really important that we ensure our rich heritage is preserved for future generations and I am certain the new website will help us to achieve this.”
The website will be updated regularly with new information over the coming months. Members of the community are also invited to submit their own stories and photos through a dedicated contributions page.
