Batty tongue twisters, intricate wit and ridiculous riddles all formed part of a distinct piece of street theatre today (Monday 30 June) in preparation for Stockton International Riverside Festival.
Members of the public were treated to a street-style routine from Madame Bonbon, a colourful creation from London-based theatre company, Cocoloco.
The eccentric character swept through Stockton High Street this afternoon, entertaining spectators with her comical cupcake fortune readings, cheeky tea leaf predictions and pointed innuendos.
Her humorous performance was just a taster of the full act which forms part of this year’s Stockton International Riverside Festival (SIRF), 31 July – 3 August. She will bring a magical, topsy-turvy, complex aroma and full-bodied feast to SIRF!
The special street-style theatre brought to life the importance of arts to the Borough ahead of Arts Council England’s National portfolio funding announcement on 1 July.
SIRF 14 will have up to 30 individual shows per day, from noon until 11pm at night. There will be a mixture of both small-scale and large scale productions shows for people of all ages from aerial shows to community carnivals.
Councillor Ken Dixon, Stockton Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, said: “Madame Bonbon is just one of the many fantastic acts at Stockton International Riverside Festival this year. SIRF always delivers an exciting time in the Borough and this year's line-up promises to be just as vibrant and amazing. With more than 100 shows over four days, there will be a huge range of spectacular theatre, music and dance for everyone to enjoy.”
Madame Bonbon will perform at SIRF14 on 2 August at 1pm and 6pm, and 3 August at 1pm and 4.30pm.
