Families wishing to take part in the North East’s biggest Community Carnival can get creative at a series of free costume making workshops.

The costume-making workshops for families will take at Preston Park Museum and Grounds on Sunday 13, 20 and 27 July from 2pm to 4pm.

Families taking part in the workshops will be working with a professional artist to construct fabulous costumes exploring science and some of the world’s greatest inventions.

Stockton’s annual Community Carnival will take place on 2 August during Stockton International Riverside Festival (SIRF).

So far 58 groups have signed up to take part in the Carnival and workshops have now started to help them prepare them for the community celebration.

This year the Carnival theme is Voyages of Discovery. Those taking part in the Carnival are asked to make costumes which reflect these great adventures and explorations.

Stockton Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, Councillor Ken Dixon, said: “The Carnival is a great opportunity for families young and old to come together and take part in a wonderful community celebration. These free workshops will help families get in the spirit and create wonderful costumes based on some of the world’s most amazing discoveries ready for the Carnival on 2 August.

To reserve a place on the workshop please contact Danielle Lynch on (01642) 527696 or email on [email protected]

Ideally families (parents/guardians and their children) will need to attend all or most of the workshops at Preston Park to enable their costumes to be completed.
