Big plans, bright future

new footbridge opens at Thornaby station

Tuesday, December 23, 2014

A new footbridge has opened at Thornaby Station.

The £1.1 million project to replace a 125 year old footbridge was carried out by Stockton Council thanks to funding from Network Rail, the Council and the Department for Transport as part of the Tees Valley Rail Improvements project.

Stockton Council's Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport, Councillor Mike Smith, said: "I am pleased that the bridge is open and can be used by people who live and work in Thornaby.

"Not only does the bridge help people access the station, it also links north Thornaby and old Thornaby so it is excellent that this well used commuter route has re-opened."
