Preston Park Museum and Grounds is set to become the venue for the Borough’s very own World Record zone this Bank Holiday weekend as Stockton’s Summer Show returns to delight crowds with a packed programme of entertainment.

On Sunday 25 and Monday 26 August visitors to Stockton Council’s annual Summer Show will be spoilt for choice for things to do, see, hear, eat and drink. From exciting horse and bird of prey displays to a wealth of stalls, arena and side shows, family entertainment is guaranteed.

Over the two days some of the region’s best chefs will be cooking up a storm with food and drink demonstrations. Stockton’s very own catering enterprise Matty’s Bistro* will be showcasing the Stockman’s Pie – a specially created signature beef pie based on the fayre eaten by the Borough’s 8th Century cattleherders. And keep your eyes peeled for Stockton’s own limited edition real ale, ‘The Oxbridge Wildcat’ – created by Wainstone’s Brewery in Stokesley.

Lovers of local delicacy, the Parmo are also in for a treat as Stockton Council hosts the famous World Parmo Competition. This year the competition is broken down into two categories – best takeaway and best restaurant. The two most popular nominees from each category will go forward to the finals and will battle it out in a cook-off on Sunday 25 August from 1.30pm. The winners of the trophies will be announced around 3.30pm.

On Sunday evening sit back, relax and picnic in the park with The Wildcats of Kilkenny and Beatles tribute act, Beatlemania. Gates open at 6pm for this family friendly show which will have the crowd toe-tapping and dancing along to the best in live local music. Tickets are available from Stockton’s ARC or Preston Park Museum and Grounds. Full price tickets for the concert cost £13.50, 8-16 years £5 and under 8s free. The Wildcats Picnic ticket price includes wristband for free entry to the Summer Show on Monday 26 August.

Young musicians are also being given an opportunity to play at the event too. The Wildcats of Kilkenny have teamed up with Apollo Arts to find the ‘Best Busker of the day’. Spectators at the Summer Show will vote for their favourite busker. The performer with the most votes will be part of the line up on the Sunday evening concert and will also scoop a small cash prize.

For the first year the programme for the two day event includes the chance for residents and businesses to take part in three unusual world record attempts - most marshmallows eaten in a minute, the fastest eating of a 12 inch pizza and the most bounces on a space hopper in a minute. Taking place on Monday 26 August between 12.30 and 3.30pm willing volunteers can sign up to take part on the day. All attempts will be adjudicated, filmed and photographed before the evidence is sent for verification.

Come along to the Summer Show on Monday from 11.30am to 4.30pm to be entertained by three talented local brass bands. Dog owners can also bring their pooches to put their best paws forward at the dog show. With a range of classes such as waggiest tail and most handsome dog, participants can enter their pet for just £1 per class.

Councillor Ken Dixon, Stockton Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, said: “The Summer Show is very popular among the Borough’s residents but this year the jam packed programme is better than ever with brand new events such as the world record attempts and the Wildcats Picnic to compliment the favourites like the World Parmo Championship. There is something to entertain everyone so make the most of the Bank Holiday and come down to Preston Park for a real treat.”

Entry to the Stockton Summer Show costs £4 for adults and £2 for under 16s with free entry for under 5s and wheelchair users. Ticket holders for The Wildcats Picnic can return free of charge to enjoy the Summer Show the next day.

Gates open at 11am on Sunday and Monday. Parking is free at Preston Park Museum and Park and throughout the two days with an overflow car parking available at Batleys Cash & Carry on Concorde Way, if on site parking is full.
