A new myth for Stockton 'Instant Light' book launch

Friday, August 02, 2013

Stockton Council is proud to launch a new myth for Stockton ‘Instant Light’ - a magical story by Sara Maitland with illustrations by Robert Dunn.

Sara Maitland joined Cllr Kathryn Nelson, the Mayor of Stockton on Tees, to launch the book at an event (Thursday 1 August) in the ‘Rediscover Stockton’ shop on the High Street, Stockton.

The story’s central character is John Walker, the Stockton-born inventor of the modern friction match.

Sarah’s mythical tale takes the story of Walker’s invention and adds imagined characters from the town and a visiting circus to create a beautiful and heart-warming tale.

Councillor Kathryn Nelson, the Mayor of Stockton-on-Tees, said: “This is a beautiful book which shows Stockton in a magical new way and celebrates our wonderful history.”

Instant Light is available at a price of £5.00 from the Rediscover Stockton shop, 134b The High Street, Stockton, TS18 1LP; tel 01642 528130 or e-mail visitorinformation@stockton.gov.uk

Also available at the Preston Hall Museum and Grounds shop, Yarm Road, Eaglescliffe, Stockton, TS18 3RH; tel 01642 527375 or e-mail prestonhall@stockton.gov.uk
