On Friday 21 September Stockton High Street will be transformed by exotic smells, tastes and sights from around the globe as the first World Market comes to the town centre.
From 11am-7pm the High Street will come alive as traders bring their wares - a truly international array of clothing, homewares, cooking ingredients, crafts and more.
And with a strong focus on foods from around the world, shoppers and visitors can sample some of the stallholders' tasty treats. There will be something to suit every taste from Mexican cuisine, Polish sausages, Moroccan couscous, Asian fayre, exotic fruits, plus a range of unusual meats such as kangaroo, buffalo, bison, zebra and wild boar.
Councillor Mike Smith, Stockton Council's Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport, said: "We have a large range of exciting stalls coming to the High Street as part of the World Market so make sure you make a date in your diary to browse them during the day, in your lunch break or after work.
"If you've not been to Stockton for a while this is also a perfect opportunity to rediscover the town and visit the growing number of tempting independent shops such as Chocs Away on Silver Street, Hanni May's Gift Emporium on West Row or Sound it Out Records on Yarm Street."
Chair of Stockton Town Team, Joanna Wake, said: "Don't miss the market with a difference! The World Market will feed your senses with an exotic array of goods from across the globe.
"Street food is really popular at the moment and this will be the perfect opportunity for a tasty lunch and a wander around with office colleagues and, since it doesn't finish until 7pm, it's absolutely ideal or for a late afternoon meet-up with friends or tea with the kids - put it in the diary!"
The World Market is part of the successful programme of specialist markets brought to Stockton Town Centre by Stockton Council. Designed to attract visitors and shoppers into Stockton and to complement what the popular weekly market has to offer, the programme continues into the autumn.
Chic Vintique returns to Parish Gardens on 20 October with its blend of quality antiques, collectables, hand crafted goods, vintage, retro and gorgeous gifts. Stockton's Farmers' markets also make a welcome return to Wellington Square on 29 September, 27 October and 24 November.
