Contactors will start to remove the roundabout at the junction of Stockton's Riverside and Bridge Road (near the Halfords store) – known as St John's Crossing – on Monday 6 August as part of the £9 million scheme to improve access to Stockton town centre.
The works will follow on from road closures for the 25th Stockton International Riverside Festival, which see the Riverside reopen on Tuesday 7 August.
Most of the work will take place during the daytime with most traffic management measures in place between 9.30am and 3.30pm.
However, relocation of the historic 1870-built Head Wrightson & Co locomotive currently sited on the roundabout will take place overnight on Saturday 11 August 2012, requiring partial closure of the roundabout. Diversions will be signposted.
In addition, an early phase of the works requires the installation of ducts beneath all of the roads leading to and from the roundabout. This will involve a rolling programme of lane reductions on these roads on weekday nights between 8pm and 6.30am for seven weeks from 13 August.
