STOCKTON Council's refuse collection teams have risen to the challenge during the recent freezing conditions.

Despite the recent heavy snow and icy conditions, all wheeled bins and recycling boxes and bags have been collected on the scheduled day.

No collections have been missed despite what is being hailed as the biggest freeze for more than a decade. This means, last week, collectively, more than 160,000 wheeled bins, blue boxes and blue and white bags will have been collected from kerbsides across the Borough on the scheduled day.

Councillor Ken Lupton, Leader of Stockton Council, said: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank and praise all the refuse and recycling collection staff and all those working behind the scenes.

"Over the festive period there are huge increases in the volume of refuse for collection and this has been carried out on schedule. This is testament to the dedication of all the collection staff and the winter maintenance crews who have ensured all parts of the Borough have been accessible. Well done to everyone!"

Anyone who has any queries can contact Care For Your Area on (01642) 391959. All refuse and recycling collections are now back to their normal days following the Christmas period.
