Teeing off for charity

Friday, August 20, 2010

AN annual charity golf day has raised more than £5,000 for good causes.

Hosted by the Mayor and Mayoress of Stockton, Councillor Colin and Mrs Marjorie Leckonby, the Mayor's annual golf day at Billingham Golf Club saw 32 teams tee off and battle it out for the winner's trophy.

Through team entry fees and donations on the day £5,350 was raised which will go to the Mayor's chosen charities - Stockton's Cornerhouse Youth Project, the Dave Rayner Cycling Fund and other smaller local charities.

Local company, Carlington Developments were declared the overall winners with GV Decorators in second place. They were presented with their prize by the Mayor at an evening ceremony.

Councillor Colin Leckonby, Mayor of Stockton, said: "I am delighted the golf day was so successful and both Marjorie and I would like to thank everyone involved in organising the event - especially Billingham Golf Club for hosting it. All the proceeds raised will go directly to my nominated charities."
