WITH a million visitors expected to head to Hartlepool for this weekend's Tall Ships Race, temporary traffic management will help keep the A19 clear of stationary traffic.
Many visitors will pass through Wolviston Interchange on the A19/A689 to reach Hartlepool.
To cater for this, traffic heading for Hartlepool from the south will initially be directed west on the A689 towards Wynyard, before a U-turn at the second roundabout.
This will allow vehicles to leave the A19 without having to wait at the top of the slip road queue back onto the A19 itself, smoothing the traffic flow to reduce delays and be safer.
Traffic from Wynyard heading towards Wolviston may experience additional delays and drivers may wish to consider alternative routes or allow extra time for their journey.
With ships already arriving at Hartlepool, visitor numbers will quickly start to grow. The traffic management was installed on Wednesday evening to be prepared for the event.
