Continuing success for Stockton's schools

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

This week the GCSE results were announced and once again there have been great achievements by schools across Stockton Borough.

Councillor Ann McCoy, Stockton Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: "I welcome these fantastic results and praise the students, teachers, support staff and governors of Stockton's schools in achieving such excellent GCSE grades this summer.

"The student's hard work and determination, combined with the high standard of teaching, has really paid off with early indications suggesting Stockton schools have achieved their highest ever results, with 75 percent of pupils achieving five or more A*- C grades, 52 percent of those including English and Maths.

"Particular praise should go to Thornaby Community School who, with 97 percent, have the highest percentage of pupils gaining five or more GCSEs at A*-C grade. In only a year this school has turned their fortunes around to achieve fantastic results and this certainly places them in a great position as they begin their new life as an academy. Well done and congratulations."
