The events have been organised as part of National Carers Week, which highlights the challenges carers face and recognises the contribution they make.

The week will also be used to launch a new 'Carer's Emergency Card' especially for adult carers.

Councillor Jim Beall, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health, said: "Carers play an absolutely vital role in our communities and it's very important that we support them as much as we can.

"Alongside our partner organisations, we will be holding a number of fun and informative events throughout next week which give carers the opportunity to find out about the range of support on offer to them.

"Carers can also get one of our new emergency cards. It's about the size of a credit card and the idea is that you carry it with you and in the event of an accident or emergency, it lets people know that you have someone who relies on you.

"This will then prompt the authorities to make sure the person you care for is safe. It's a simple idea but a good one, and it can only give carers added peace of mind really."
