Local elections are held once every four years, on the first Thursday of May.

In a local election, you are voting to elect councillors who will represent your views for the area where you live.

The Borough of Stockton-on-Tees is divided into 27 areas known as wards. Each ward has one, two or three councillors depending on its size. There are a total of 56 elected councillors.

The Local Government Boundary Commission for England has recently carried out an electoral review of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council. Changes to Stockton-on-Tees ward boundaries will come into effect for the May elections together with revised parish electoral arrangements for Billingham Town Council, Egglescliffe Parish Council, Grindon & Thorpe Thewles Parish Council, Ingleby Barwick Town Council, Kirklevington & Castlelevington Parish Council and Thornaby Town Council.

You can find out more at The Local Government Boundary Commission for England website. You can also download individual ward boundary maps showing the proposed changes.
