Subject to receipt of planning permission, the town centre property - under Hilton's economy Hampton by Hilton brand - is expected to welcome its first guests in early 2018. Detailed plans for the new hotel will be submitted for planning consideration later this month.

Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president, development, EMEA, Hilton said: "Nearly 60 UK towns and cities are now home to one of our hotels. Widely available in the UK, Hampton by Hilton taps into the need for modern hotel accommodation to suit a variety of travel needs.

"Stockton Borough Council's ambition and the award-winning regeneration of the nearby High Street are extremely impressive. With companies including Tata, Axa, United Biscuits, Virgin Media and Fujifilm all located in the vicinity, we expect the new hotel to lead the market when it opens in 2018."

Hampton by Hilton Stockton-on-Tees will be Hilton's first hotel in the town, and will be owned and developed by Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council. Situated on Church Road, the new hotel will have 125 guest rooms, a 24-hour fitness suite and contemporary meeting space.

Leader of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, Councillor Bob Cook, said: "We're delighted to be working with such a famous global name and know there is an incredibly strong business case for this hotel.

"The proposed hotel is a key piece in the jigsaw for the regeneration of Stockton town centre and an economic impact assessment estimates this kind of internationally renowned hotel would be a huge asset, bringing in £6.7million per year into the local economy and creating around 100 jobs for local people."

The Council's Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport, Councillor Nigel Cooke, added: "We are very ambitious for the Borough and Stockton-on-Tees is very much open for business.

"In Stockton High Street, we've got an award-winning public space and exciting projects like the hotel, Globe restoration and Georgian Theatre, combined with our superb events programme, are about creating assets and attractions to take things to the next level."

The site of the proposed new hotel forms part of the mixed-use Northshore regeneration scheme, which incorporates new offices, homes and leisure facilities within walking distance of the newly regenerated Stockton town centre. The 56-acre, £300million scheme is a partnership between Muse Developments, the Homes and Communities Agency and Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.

Stockton-on-Tees has been subject to significant regeneration, thanks to the Council, Tees Valley Combined Authority and Local Enterprise Partnership. Tees Valley will deliver an additional 25,000 new jobs and add an extra £2.8 billion into the local economy by 2026.

Hampton by Hilton Stockton-on-Tees will be located at Church Road, Stockton-on-Tees.
