Be Smokefree

health

No surprises here-stopping is the best thing you can do.

We all want to do what’s best for our children and if you smoke, it’s likely that you already take steps to not smoke in front of your children or grandchildren at home or in the car. But even the best intentions aren’t always enough to protect those you love from the toxic poisons in cigarettes.

Although you might not always be able to see or smell it, second-hand cigarette smoke contains more than 4,000 chemicals including dozens which cause cancer. These linger long after you’ve finished your cigarette. More than 80% of second-hand smoke is invisible and odourless, so whether you open a window, or smoke in another room, these fumes can hang around for hours and be breathed-in by your children.

As well as causing nasty breathing problems, exposing your child to second-hand smoke is more likely to cause asthma, chest and ear infections and even bacterial meningitis. Children with asthma can also have more frequent attacks than those less exposed to smoke.

The best thing you can do to protect your child from breathing in your smoke is to quit smoking completely, or at the very least smoke outside away from them. Being a positive role model by quitting now will also make it less likely that your son or daughter will want to try smoking in the future.

You are four times more likely to quit if you are using the local stop smoking service for support, if you would like to stop smoking, please contact our Stop Smoking Service on 01642 383819.

The Stop Smoking Service offer free, weekly drop in sessions to get some practical help to stub it out for good!

No booking needed but please arrive at least 20 minutes before the stated end times in order to be assessed.
