Giant Christmas tree lands in Stockton Town Centre
Stockton Sparkles preparations continued at the weekend with the arrival of three more supersized festive decorations - including a giant Christmas tree!
The 50ft tall spruce tree was lowered by a crane into its new home in the High Street's Central Area yesterday (Sunday, 19 November).
As well as the tree, visitors to Stockton High Street will also spot a huge sparkling gift box on the Castlegate Centre roof and the return of the much-loved polar bear and cub which can be seen peering into the Town Hall.
The decorations are the latest giant installations to arrive in the town centre and join the Christmas bauble on the High Street, and the reindeer and calf that are positioned above the Shambles market hall.
They will all be switched on during the launch night of Stockton Sparkles, which starts at 5.30pm on Thursday 30 November.
Councillor Norma Wilburn, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, said: "These prominent decorations are really starting to create a winter wonderland in the lead up to Stockton Sparkles and they're sure to delight all visitors to the town centre.
"The festival will be packed full of exciting free winter activities including Christmas markets, entertaining street theatre and a reindeer parade as well as a Victorian fair. This year we're also launching a lovely new community initiative with the housing provider Thirteen, called 'The Gift', which encourages residents across the Borough to help those less fortunate. There's lots happening throughout the four-week event and we're looking forward to welcoming you all at our launch night on 30 November."
